A weekly vessel does not create a weekly program by itself

A repeatable ocean program begins at the receiving dock. If the destination warehouse has fixed appointment windows, work backward to establish the supplier-ready date, the container cutoff, and the latest document handoff for each weekly departure.

The objective is not simply to load every week. It is to create a cadence that inventory, purchasing, customs, and receiving teams can all see and operate against.

Give every handoff a visible owner

A simple milestone record should name the owner for supplier pickup and consolidation, export filing, bill of lading review, customs clearance, and delivery appointment. When a sailing changes or an invoice is incomplete, the exception has a clear place to go.

That visibility matters most before a disruption. It lets a team decide whether to move an urgent SKU by air while the ocean plan continues rather than rebuilding the whole shipment program.

Measure cadence, not just transit

Track how consistently cargo becomes ready, how often documents clear before cutoff, and whether delivery appointments land inside the expected receiving week. Those measures reveal whether the program is predictable enough to support inventory commitments.
